James is the show’s main hero. He is determined to find out the truth behind his father’s disappearance, treading into his footsteps as a superhero.
James sometimes has trouble focusing his attention on one specific thing, preferring to do many things at a time - this occasionally gets him in trouble. He also has a tendency to bite off more than he can chew, and is hesitant to admit it whenever he does so. Luckily, his super-friends are always by his side to help him.

Samira is James's older sister and primary caretaker whenever their mother isn't around. Due to the fact that she's often been left alone with her brother, she's become rather protective of him, sometimes even too much so - but she'll always make sure that he's safe.
She has been aware of her father's true identity for years - although it's still unsure how she truly found out. It could have something to do with Angelo - considering he acted as their main babysitter when Samira was too young to look after the house. Due to her role of caretaker, she can be overly protective of her brother and at times fails to see him as his own person, rather than a mission.

Bella Garcia is Samira's best friend.
She's cute, kind and bubbly, but when pushed, she gets snappy and can get a serious attitude. She also gets along well with Anna, even though they don't get to interact that often. Bella's eyes have shifted to a lighter shade of blue than they originally were since first activating her powers.

Thomas is Antonio's best friend.
On the outside he seems cynical and sarcastic, but he has a soft spot for his friends. He lives with his father; his mother moved back to the UK after a messy divorce. He somewhat resents her for this, but loves her no matter what, never refusing a phone call from her. It takes a few episodes for Thomas’s cynicism to fade - sort of. He doesn’t have a lot of patience for James’s reckless behaviour, but learns to understand where the boy’s desperation to find his father comes from, knowing how much it hurts to have been ‘abandoned’ by one of his own parents.

Antonio is the reluctant hero. In fact, he served as the deuteragonist in the first half of the webcomic before turning to James’s side. He has a clear “I didn’t ask to be here”-attitude, but that disappears when his friends are in danger. He and James share some animosity in their past - James is well-liked by his classmates and is even class-president. Antonio, on the other hand, is a bit of an outcast due to his communicative issues.
Now that he’s found four kindred spirits that treat him like a true friend, however, he’s become kinder and determined to protect them.

Anna Kalani is James's best friend since kindergarten and partner-in-crime. She's quick and agile, witty and clever. Her father was a military man, and she wishes to follow in his footsteps. After the military, she's thinking of becoming a private investigator. Anna quickly figures out James's secret identity (besides the fact that it's quite obvious). She pretends not to know, out of respect for her friend and both their safety. She does keep a close eye on him and follows his Spark-identity for the school newspaper as an excuse.

Daniel Collins is the current CEO of VIPER, and the son of VIPER's former CEO, Andrew. He has made it his personal mission to find and capture James. Andrew disappeared on the same night James’s father did.
Daniel is out for revenge, as well as to take the power he believes is owed to him for all the work Andrew put into the serum. Like James, Daniel believes his father has gone missing, and doesn’t believe Martin is dead, either. He is suspicious, conniving, and goes to great lengths to get what he wants.

Angelo is Martin's twin brother, and the lead scientist of the LIGHTNING taskforce. He's been quietly working to take down VIPER, but proved unsuccessful until James came along. Now, he helps his niece and nephew on their mission - seemingly harbouring some secrets of his own.

As a flight attendant, Cheyenne travels all over the world, but this leaves her little time to spend with her children.
What they don’t know, however, is that Cheyenne has been aware of LIGHTNING’s existence since its conception and knows exactly what her kids are up to on a daily basis.
She trusts their uncle will do what’s necessary to keep them safe and only steps in when her authority as a parent is demanded.

Meryn Abbott is Daniel’s right hand and Ursula’s adoptive sister. She volunteered to be injected with the SERVE-serum, allowing her to teleport. She’s also very technically skilled, being in charge of most of VIPER’s operations. She’s not afraid to stand up against people she deems stronger than her – if they’re stronger, she believes she can always outwit them. Meryn is a little bit of a hothead and worries a lot about coming across as the perfect employee.
